How has Crayon Motors grown during this period? Do you think the electric car market has grown this fiscal year? How many agents do you currently have? What benefits do you get from a FAME II policy?
Crayon Motors has established itself as a company that offers easy-to-use, hassle-free products that require minimal maintenance over time. Each of our motorbikes, which has many distinctive features, is specifically designed for Indian roads, weather and basic requirements. Our current low/city speed scooters do not qualify for the FAME-2 schemes. However, our products are subject to type approval and will be available soon. Since these products are designed, developed and manufactured in India, they are eligible for FAME-II benefits. Crayons products are widely accepted across India. While we have a stronger focus in the North, we are expanding our network to become PAN India.
The Fame India scheme is undoubtedly a step towards localizing the entire supply chain. Motivating those made in India to help reduce the initial cost of vehicle ownership. What are the latest technologies that have been used to realize the aspirations of the electric mobility industry?
Although the electric vehicle industry in India is one of the fastest growing, it is still in its infancy. Through many partnerships and collaborations, the industry will experience many technological changes that will fuel the growth and aspirations of the industry. Many new solutions and products will be introduced in the coming years. The introduction of connected electric vehicles and new battery standards will lead to the next growth cycle.
What are your best selling products?
We have different products for different types of clients. Our motorcycles are designed with the Indian road and weather conditions in mind. This is one of the main reasons for gaining such widespread acceptance in such a short period of time. Zeez + and Envy + are two of our most successful scooter models.
Your opinion on electric car policies by the government.
The government has the capacity to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in India, and the policies announced/drafted are going in that direction. Policies target both the national and state levels. State policies have identified a good mix of demand incentives to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in their regions.
The electric vehicle trend in India is positive, but it requires acceleration and an industry- and customer-focused framework. Acceleration can be achieved by increasing financial investments and implementing more serious policies. Having said that, the ease of retail financing can help propel electric vehicles forward.
What can customers expect from Crayon Motors, the next step?
Our primary focus so far remains on launching high speed scooters. We plan to launch four distinct products during this fiscal year. The entire production line is currently in the trial, testing and approval stage. In addition, we are developing our own payment systems. This is an area of focus because if drivetrains are favorable to Indian roads, they ensure longevity and better battery efficiency for the electric vehicle. We feel that a powerful engine will play a major role in ensuring the success of electric vehicles in India. Motorcycles are also in the anvil but not this fiscal year.
