Contributed Content – Beneath the colorful mountain landscape and the iconic towering red rocks of southern Utah, the rolling green hills of Coral Canyon luxury golf course. Designed by architect Keith Foster, this 7,200-yard plot, par-72 offers panoramic views from the red desert to the cliffs of Zion National Park, making for a golf experience you’re sure to remember.
Having originally opened in 2000 under the direction of SunCor Golf Inc. The course quickly gained fame and became the No. 1 golf course in Utah, said Marco Leoni, general manager of the course. As of fall 2020, Coral Canyon He changed its owner and managing company to Z Golf Management, which owns and operates Falcon Ridge Golf Course in Mesquite, Nevada, since 2014.
Within two years, Leoney said they had made a huge investment to make Coral Canyon better than ever. The stadium has new bunkers, new buggy trails, and new irrigation, along with thicker turf and renovations for the Coral Canyon Restaurant.
“Under the new management, approximately $3 million has been added to the investment, with tee funds, landscaping, rocks, grass and improved golf course conditions making it one of the best golf courses in southern Utah,” he added.
In 2021, Coral Canyon supervisor and Greens guard Josh Kent won the Southern Nevada chapter The American Golf Course Supervisors Association Supervisor of the Year award, which Leoni said is a huge honor. It was Kent’s work improving conditions and facilitating changes in Coral Canyon that earned him the award.
Improvements include the general conditions of the course, with the best grass and structure the facility has seen in over 10 years. Leoney said Coral Canyon uses full-season grass, which means that unlike other golf courses in the area, they don’t have to shut down to over-play each year, a process in which grass seed is spread over existing grass to promote new growth or switch seasonal grass. This allows Coral Canyon to be open year round with no downtime for maintenance.
The facility also created or redesigned four new tee boxes: the tee box was redesigned for the sixth hole, adding about 15 yards of playing surface; The seventh hole has a new black T-shirt chest; The third hole contains a new red T-shirt chest; A new tee box is being created for the second slot.
Additional changes at Coral Canyon include a revamped restaurant and menu with a new outdoor patio area for views of the sprawling grass and red rocks.
“The restaurant serves really good, high quality food, and people are excited about some of the new changes we made there,” said Leoni.
With monsoon rains over the past few years, Leoney said the golf course has received a significant amount of rain from the Coral Canyon community along with rain runoff from I-15, which flooded and washed away most of the golf course’s holes. This required restructuring the hole and has now been re-engineered to withstand the harsh elements for future generations.
“The overall design of the golf course is one of the most enjoyable in the city,” said Leoni. “It is challenging, but also very playable at all skill levels. Our customer service is top notch. We want our guests to have an unforgettable experience from start to finish.”
Offering a luxurious golfing experience, Coral Canyon Hotel prides itself on its outstanding services that players provide upon arrival, from welcome to baggage transfer and check-in. The professional staff also assists with a variety of golfers’ needs, from services to clothing and tee times.
Besides the regular tee times, Coral Canyon is also considered one of the best tournament host facilities in southern Utah. With an 18-hole championship golf course, exceptional staff and enough space to host an award ceremony, they are ready to be the home of your next golf tournament.
“We are completely open and ready for people to come out and experience all the changes we’ve made,” Leoni said.
